The Fourth District of the County of San Diego is amazingly diverse. Stretching across nearly 100 square miles, from Paradise Hills in the southern most part to University City in the northern most part and Clairemont in the western most part to the College Area in the eastern most part, it includes more than 620,000 residents from widely different backgrounds. There are many different languages spoken throughout our district, with immigrants from regions such as the Pacific Rim, Somalia, the Sudan, Italy and many others.
The district is home to San Diego’s 1,200 acre Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and the newest edition to San Diego’s celebrated 54.3 million trolley network, the Green Line. Our rich educational offerings include San Diego State University, University of San Diego, two campuses of the San Diego Community College District and many other options for working adults.
The San Diego Chargers play at Qualcomm Stadium in the district while 10,000 Marines, Sailors and civilians help keep the country safe from the 24,000 acre Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
Healthcare options are plentiful in the district, from the hospitals such as Scripps Mercy, Sharp Memorial and Children’s to community clinics including the Public Health Center at 5202 University Ave., Central Public Health Center at 5055 Ruffin Road, the San Diego Indian Health Center at 2602 First Ave., Suite 100; and North Park Family Health Center at 3544 30th St.
When it comes to government history, our district is home to Old Town State Park, itself the original seat of government in the County of San Diego.
It is an honor to be able to represent such a richly diverse district and a place that I’ve called home since for more than 56 years.
