Promoting Traffic Safety and Community Awareness in the Torrey Hills Community:  Local Community Projects Grant (Districts: 3 & 4)

 

SUMMARY:

 

 

Overview

 

Funding for the Community Projects Grant program was included in the fiscal year 2003-2004 adopted budget in order to further public purposes throughout the County. 

 

 

 

Recommendation(s)

 

VICE CHAIRWOMAN PAM SLATER AND SUPERVISOR RON ROBERTS:

  1. Allocate $7,500 from the Community Projects Grant Budget (org 0263) and $7,500 from the Community Projects Grant Budget (org 0264) to the Torrey Hills Community Coalition for a comprehensive traffic safety study and community awareness program.
  2. Authorize the Chief Financial Officer to execute a grant agreement with the organization establishing terms for receipt of the funds described above.
  3. Find that the grant award described above has a public purpose.

 

 

 

Fiscal Impact

 

The current year cost of this project is $15,000.  The funding source is $7,500 from Community Projects Budget (org 0263) and $7,500 from Community Projects Budget (org 0264).  This will result in the addition of no staff years and no future year costs.

BACKGROUND:

The Torrey Hills Community Coalition works to preserve the quality of life valued throughout the community by educating and informing local citizens on issues relating to land use, zoning, and traffic.  This $15,000 grant will fund a traffic study in the community of Torrey Hills, which will include the surface roads of El Camino Real, W. Ocean Air, Vista Sorrento Parkway, Sorrento Valley Road, Carmel Mountain Road, and connecting streets, along with brochures and other promotional materials, which will enable the Torrey Hills Community Coalition to enhance and expand their community awareness/outreach programs, including direct mailings, an expanded web site, and community events.
