TO:

Board of Supervisors

SUBJECT:

BRIGHTENING THE LIVES OF ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN (District: All)

SUMMARY:

Overview

The Internet is regarded as one of the greatest inventions of our time. Without question, it has dramatically changed the way we live our lives – from the way we communicate with one another to the way we purchase goods and services. By capitalizing on the popularity of the Internet, specifically the County’s own web site, we have an opportunity to create a new revenue stream to help abused and neglected children. The recommended action will initiate a study of whether the County should allow outside advertising to be displayed on its web site as a means to raise funds for the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.

Recommendation(s)

SUPERVISORS ROBERTS AND COX:

Direct the Chief Administrative Officer to study the feasibility of allowing advertising on the County’s web site – with all proceeds benefiting the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation – and return to the Board in 60 days with a report regarding implementation of this proposal.
